The real value of financial planning is it's ability to look at the big picture. It's a little like when you ask someone "what would you do if you had an unlimited amount of money?", but then we actually dig into it and figured out just how close you could live your life to that. It might surprise you how far it will get you when you planning ahead and adjusting some of your behaviors.
Welcome to Sycamore Wealth Planning. I’m Jon Sycamore, a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ who puts the focus on YOU rather than on managing your investment assets. We work together to develop a comprehensive financial plan that takes into account your whole financial landscape. When you work with me, your financial plan will include actionable advice on all the areas of financial planning (cash flow, insurance, employee benefits, investments, taxes, retirement, and estate planning). I work in downtown Salt Lake City, but more often than not, I work with clients virtually.
I began working in the financial planning field in 2008 where I quickly learned that financial advice has some real conflicts of interest. With no experience, I was rushed through a short training program that amounted to studying for the necessary licenses. After about three weeks, I passed the licensing exams and was officially deemed competent to sell mutual funds. I was then told to get out my phone and start calling everyone in my contact list and set up an appointment to sell them a high growth mutual fund.
My first appointment was with a close friend and I felt completely incompetent to give him advice about his finances, despite my fancy new licenses. I decided then that before I impart advice on my own, I needed to really learn how. I went back to school and obtaining a master’s degree in financial planning and gained experience by working in supportive positions for seasoned financial planners. In 2016, I decided it was time to start my own financial planning practice where I would provide sound financial advice in an objective, unbiased way. As a fee-only financial advisor, I don’t accept commissions or let any outside influences get in the way of providing the best possible advice for you.
